Laser hair removal is becoming an increasingly popular procedure, and many of our clients often ask how to prepare for their upcoming laser hair removal sessions when they come for their initial consultations with us.
In this blog, we’ll cover everything you need to know about how to prepare for laser hair removal treatments, from what you need to do before you arrive at the clinic to some useful tips about aftercare.
How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal at NYLC: Choosing Your Treatment
Arranging your first laser hair removal session with NYLC is simple – we will first ask you to attend a free consultation with one of our specialists so that you can find out about the treatment. Following this you can browse our pricing options and select the course of treatments that will work best for you. You may find that you wish to have treatment administered on more than one area of your body. If this is the case we can recommend package deals to you for optimal savings.
At your free initial consultation at one of our London clinics, you will have every opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the procedure, potential side effects and expected results. We will also administer a patch test on the area (or areas) you wish to be treated, to make sure there are no adverse reactions from the laser.
How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal at NYLC: Your First Appointment
Before attending your first appointment, you will be asked to prepare the area/s that are to be treated by doing the following:
- Remove hair: shave the area with a sharp razor for best results
- Avoid wearing product: for example, if your underarms are to be treated we ask that you remove any trace of deodorant before you come to the clinic
Once the area is ready to be treated, the procedure can go ahead and will likely be over in a matter of minutes! During the treatment you will be asked to wear a pair of goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beams. Our specialists will administer the treatment and you will then be offered aloe vera gel to soothe any sensitive areas such as the bikini line.
During the treatment you may feel a slight tingling sensation, but since our gold-standard Candela laser has a built-in cooling system you will likely experience only very mild discomfort, if any.

In terms of aftercare, we suggest that you continue applying your own aloe vera gel (or something similar) to keep redness down to a minimum. We also recommend keeping your showers and baths to a lukewarm temperature for a couple of days after your treatment, as extreme temperatures may irritate the skin.
If you still have questions about how you should prepare for laser hair removal, you can always contact our specialists, or ask at one of our London clinics. Our highly-trained aestheticians will be able to assist with any queries you have about the overall process or the procedure itself.
