We recently had the pleasure of treating writer Elisa Sassoon from Luxuriate Magazine for our fantastic microdermabrasion treatment.

Winter is here. And so is dry, dull-looking skin.
All across town, Londoners are arriving and leaving work in the dark, swaddled in extra layers, with only the twinkling lights of Christmas displays to guide their path. Despite copious amounts of moisturiser, facial oil and concentrated serum, it’s impossible to revive that summer glow. After an extensive browse, I found a solution at the New York Laser Clinic in Baker Street – a Microdermabrasion Treatment.
The treatment is a minimally invasive procedure used to renew overall skin tone and texture after just one session. The experts at New York Laser Clinic recommend a course of three treatments every two weeks and then once a month to improve the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots and acne scarring, for those wanting serious results.
After a stroll through Marylebone, I am immediately greeted by a polished-looking receptionist from behind the clinic’s sparkling white counter. She checks me in and asks me to fill in a very detailed form of my medical history and recent treatments, which reassures me that I’m in safe hands. I’m taken downstairs to a cosy treatment room and given a moment to settle in. I am also reassured that New York Laser Clinic has been established for 15 years with over 200,000 clients passing through their doors.
About the treatment
My therapist, Camelia, talks me through the treatment whilst adjusting the headrest and lighting to ensure I’m comfortable. After carefully removing my make-up with Jan Marini C-ESTA Cleansing Gel, the treatment begins with gentle suction over the face and neck to remove oil and dirt, which, despite the whir of the machine, is far more relaxing than it sounds. Microcrystals are then used to exfoliate the top layer of the skin to reveal a brighter layer beneath. Camelia assures me that this process will stimulate the production of collagen giving me softer, smoother skin. Yes, please.
Now for some relaxation
I liked the way Camelia leisurely applied generous layers of the Jan Marini Micro Mask and could feel it gently sinking into my newly polished skin. Once the lights were dimmed, I was left to enjoy the mask for 10 minutes or so to ensure the green tea extract, seed oil, shea butter and aloe vera could take effect.
Camelia then reappeared for the third and final stage of the treatment in the form of Jan Marini Transformation Face Cream, which she tells me is her favourite product from the range as it rebuilds cells and leaves skin feeling silky. I paused as I was handed the mirror. I’ve become accustomed to a blotchy, red face staring back at me after most facials making for a rather awkward journey home. In this instance, my complexion looked buttery-smooth as though I were looking through an Instagram filter. There were no marks left following the intense suction and exfoliation phase and I parted with a spring in my step, despite the clouds.
NYLC’s Microdermabrasion is ideal for those looking to treat dry, congested skin with a one-off treatment. My skin was noticeably smoother and more hydrated in the days that followed, not to mention completely blemish free. It was a wonderful winter boost but I would certainly consider a course of treatments in the run up to a Christmas party or holiday.
